Life is ever evolving; circumstances keep changing – sometimes very good, at times average and other times very harsh and difficult. Quite a good percentage of people who are your friends, colleagues and relatives also tend to change accordingly.
There could be all sorts of difficult situations in our life when we feel that we find going extremely tough compelling us to consider “give up”. The give up sometimes happens too soon and at times when the success was just 3 feet away. We give up even before we really started the new activity. Other times we give up just before making this huge breakthrough to success. The mind just feels that enough is enough and it feels that how much more effort would be required to succeed and it can really scare us. Under any circumstances don’t give up beforehand under the pressure of your silly emotions!
There are some things in life that you can’t change and you have got to live with them. There are sometimes certain situations or circumstances that you can’t change so better accept them and still find a way to move on.
There is no point in asking “Why me?” because there is and there will be no answer. You have only two options, either to give up or keep going.
From my personal experience and that of the many friends and clients, it was possible to accomplish goals despite the path being full of difficulties and disappointments because abandoning or taking U turn was never even considered as an option.
Solid Reasons Why You Should Never Give Up
You are used to facing challenges
Whether you realize or not, the fact is that every single day is a challenge. Only most of the days, the challenges are rather easy and surmountable thus you do not notice or even if you notice, you don’t complain.
In fact, we do need challenges to stay active, smart and in shape. The proper response to challenges should be to turn them around and go through them. Every successful person has done and so can you. This is of prime importance if you are heading a team or a department or an organisation. Not only does that ensure that you are pushing yourself in the right direction, but it also motivates others around you. In your daily lives, at work or at home, there are plenty of times when you have to successfully and boldly lead from the front. Under such conditions, it is not easy to Give Up!
You are stronger than you think
If you think, “I can’t handle it any longer,” will cause you to exaggerate your inability to deal with it. The stress of the work or the process will become intolerable and full of stress. As a consequence, you may waste your time and energy dreading going to work and spend your evenings complaining about your difficulty level.
Unfortunately, you’ll inadvertently increase your stress and reinforce to yourself that you’re just not strong enough to accomplish your goals. As a result, you’ll most likely quit—not because you really wanted to, but because you convinced yourself you weren’t strong enough to handle the job.
Now that you know the self defeating process, you have to exactly the opposite. Convince yourself that you have all the strength to do whatever you want. Actually you are stronger than you think. 1 or 2 or even a few failures should not deter you from achieving your goals. We are all stronger than we think we are, and each one of us can achieve amazing goals. Would you still like to give up on your dreams ?
You have to struggle to reach your goals
Nothing extra ordinary can be achieved unless you challenge yourself. Whether it is the field of Sports or Finance or Scientific Research, the extra ordinary results will not come and automatically fall in your lap. To have extra ordinary achievements, you have to shake yourself out of the comfort zone. Thus do not even consider quitting just because you don’t want to be uncomfortable. Simply throwing up your hands and giving up will prevent you from reaching there. Remember that the greatest achievements in life tend to happen outside of the comfort zones.
Doubting your ability to step outside of your comfort zone will keep you stuck to your present position only.
Giving up can become a bad habit
Quitting every time you face a new challenge can form into a self destructive habit. It might change your perception of self. You may begin to believe easily that you’re weak or a failure because you can’t seem to fight with difficulties long enough to see positive results.
The good news is that you can change it completely. Prove to yourself that you’re strong enough to tolerate more than you think: Just because you feel challenged doesn’t mean you should give up right away.
You deserve to be happy
Believe that you deserve happiness and success. In fact, everyone deserves happiness and success. Keep this positive attitude always and never give up until you achieve your goals. Do not ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
Yet, we all have our own struggles and may be your present set of circumstances is one of the tougher ones. At this stage, remind yourself that life is anything but simple. Trying to balance work, home, family and more can be tough and demanding. You deserve to find some happiness in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Don’t let these small speed breakers on the road take away your happiness.
Call it the Law of Attraction or just positive thinking, but happiness goes a long way. When you live your life to the fullest, you will reap the benefits. With positive attitude, you may come across helpful and more positive persons, making your journey easier and a pleasure.
Studies have also shown that happy people tend to do better in life and work. For example, if you want to get a promotion, you should definitely stay positive and nourish your positive attitude each day in your life.
It has been done before
Just check if people have had same or similar goals as yours? Did anyone or may succeed before at what you are trying to achieve now? Even if there was only one person in the world who has done what you want to do – it proves to you that whatever your goal is – IT CAN BE ACHIEVED!
For example, if you are trying to become the CEO of your organisation, obviously one or more persons would have done that before. Similarly, if you are studying hard to become a Surgeon or an Engineer, millions have proven it that it is possible and thousands will continue to do so every year.
Remind yourself that if someone else can do it then so can you. That should be motivating enough for you to never give up!
Failure Is Normal
It is impossible to reach success without first failing a few times, so don’t let anything stop you from persisting. Nobody is programmed to be successful at the first try, that is why failure is a normal process in life. Failure is not the end but just a feedback to you suggesting that you change the method or the direction.
We all know of failure to success stories or the rise to fame lives of celebrities. Though these stories may looks like an overnight success but in reality success is always preceded by years of struggle, persistence and hard work. Instant success is a myth. Ask yourself, does it make sense to give up ?
“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.” -Michael Jordan
You have the resources
It is important to remember that when you are having a rough day, or a week without results, or a bad month and you may feel like giving up. But if you dig deep, you will find resources you may not have known existed. As humans, we are all programmed to be survivors. And over the time we have all become smarter, stronger, and wiser from the struggles we’ve undergone.
When you think you’re not strong enough, prove yourself wrong. If you think you can’t stand something for one more minute, stick around for two minutes and tell yourself that no matter the amount of setbacks you face you have the strength to keep going. This will convince to yourself that you can do it.
Also make a conscious decision that you won’t allow negative thoughts to limit your potential.
The most worthwhile things are rarely easy
Success does not come easily to people. The diamonds or great relationships or good career doesn’t hang on the branches of trees for you to go and pluck them. The message is loud an clear that you have to kick your easy or comfortable life and put forth the efforts to achieve a great career, a harmonious relationship, a family you can be proud of etc.
To achieve such worthwhile and precious things require positive thoughts, self-control, deep commitment, regular action, high level of self-sacrifice, and a willingness to put in a lot of effort over a long period of time.
But what could be better than the results you get from such an effort?
